Please remember to read your November issue of the King Newsletter. We have it posted under our parent resource page on this website. There are a lot of exciting things happening here this month at King!
Report cards will soon be available following the end of First Quarter. At the elementary level, report cards will be made available to parents by your child's teacher at Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please contact the school directly to arrange a meeting time.
We're Going Green! This year we will be using a mildly different layout for printing our Elementary Report Cards through Skyward, our student data management system. Doing so will reduce the amount of paper used for report card printing, streamline the process of generating report cards in our office, and save the District a considerable amount in printing costs, etc. Unfortunately, due to circumstances both unforeseen and beyond our control, we will not be able to print the Grade and Skill Mark Legend directly on the report card and retain a layout that is both user-friendly and saves resources and money. To remedy this, our existing Report Card Guide brochure, which explains what each grade and skill mark means, will also be made available along with the Report Cards by your child's teacher at the Parent-Teacher Conference mentioned above. While this slightly increases our paper use and printing costs for the first Report Card distribution, we believe it is vital that parents have all the information necessary to fully understand their child's progress and needs. Your child's teacher will offer you a copy of the brochure to keep and will be happy to discuss the meanings of the skill marks and grades. You Can Help, Too! We are confident that our efforts to reduce both resource use and costs will begin to be realized with subsequent grading terms this year and for many years to come. We encourage parents to keep the Report Card Guide in a safe place and refer to it throughout the year as needed. To further assist with our cost- and resource-saving efforts, links to electronic versions of the Report Card Guide and Grade Level Expectations brochures have been added to every elementary school's web site. You can find the links like this:
Comments On Reusable Envelopes Our commenting procedure remains the same this year. Each elementary student's report card will be enclosed in a sturdy and reusable envelope. The report card is yours to keep each term. Printed on each envelope is a space for your child's teacher to include comments and a space for parents/guardians to sign showing that you have read over and discussed your child's grades. Please return this envelope with your signature to school with your child during the week following Report Card distribution so that we may reuse them throughout the year. They are yours to keep or recycle at the end of the school year. What's Next? As schools throughout Illinois and many other states migrate toward the Common Core Standards, we may need to make further changes to some of the items on our report card. We'll do our best to keep you informed of these needed changes as we become aware of them. To learn more about the National Common Core State Standards (or "NCCSS"), visit the NCCSS Web site or click on the tab at right to browse through the new expectations. New links have just been added to the Parent Resources page of our Web site! Elementary Grade Level ExpectationsThis link will take you to the District #205 collection of Grade Level Expectations brochures. These are electronic copies of the printed brochures that are distributed at the first Parent-Teacher Conferences of each school year. Report Card GuideThis is also an electronic copy of a brochure that you'll receive at Parent-Teacher Conferences. It is intended to help parents understand the Standards-based Report Card format used in all District #205 elementary schools. Please contact us if you have any questions about your child's report card or his/her grade level expectations.
Thanks to everyone who sold the fundraiser items for King School! The pick up times are from 3:30-5:30 on Tuesday, October the 9th. There is a document on the PTO page that you can read and printed out if you are able to help. Thanks to our outstanding PTO for their dedication and support to the kids and staff at King School!
